This morning I woke up and knew I needed a moment with the flowers before I got to work.

I took a quick stroll around my neighborhood, picked some roses, rosemary, and lantana, and took a few deep, aromatic breaths. This is how my mother used to rouse me from naps when I was just a babe: She was an aromatherapist, and would take me out to the garden to point out to me different flowers and plants, their names, their uses. Roses are for healing the heart. Rosemary for recalling memories. Lantana for certain skin disturbances. I grew up with these plant friends always close by.

In the summer, the sweet lusciousness of watermelon pairs perfectly with rose water for a cooling, balancing, and heart healing elixir. And takes just a moment to make in the blender or Vitamix.
